The World Has Not Ended Of Yet...

Although with reports of the tsunami in Asia, the Christmas snowfall in Brownsville, and the fact that the end of the Mayan Calendar approaches in seven years, I wouldn't be surprised if the evangelicals get something right. However, on a more pleasant note, many wonderful things happened since my last post.

Wonderful Thing #1: Christmas Happened
There was snow in Brownsville, Texas. I'm talking the southernmost tip of the United States border with Mexico, the southernmost tip of Texas, where 70 degree weather is considered "quite chilly" and all the fresas (read: aloof, snotty, usually rich Mexicans here on the border) bust out in their designer parkas and scarves and gloves. Here, in Brownsville, was the first white Christmas seen in over 100 years! Granted, there was only an inch and a half of snow, but for a place that averages over 100 degrees Farenheit in the summer, where the humidity is 100 percent for 95 percent of the year, and where people go to get away from the snow and cold, that's pretty darn impressive.

Wonderful Thing #1.5: I got lovely gifts for Christmas.
The Lord of the Rings Extended DVD Boxed Set. Mine, my own, my prrrecious!
A vintage sewing box complete with many supplies (basting ribbon, lace, thread, needles, buttons, zippers, pins, etc) to help me get started on another domestic art I hope to conquer.
Clothes!
Money!
A lovely turtleneck sweater from my best friend Kevin.
A beautiful brooch to adorn the up-and-coming-soon-to-be-knit-shawl from my good friend Irvine.
An absolutely adorable little wallet from Anna Ramirez, my sister's best friend and a lovely friend of mine as well.
A tin of Green Tea from the Asian Market in Houston from the dearest Myrant.
Birkenstock clogs (just what I wanted to complete my Austinite-hippie look).

Wonderful Thing #2: I saw Jan Chow who came from Singapore for Christmas!
Jan was a good friend of mine his senior year (my junior year) in high school. He, Irvine, Stephanie, Aaron, Michael and Carlos.. and I, formed a hang-out lunch group. But Jan isn't an American citizen. He's a resident, but he's a citizen of Singapore. Singaporian law states that all male citizens (after finishing high school) must spend two years in the army. So now, he's in his 1.5th year in the Army as a weapon's specialist. And let me tell you, he's gotten very very very attractive. No crew cut, though, which made him look slightly less sharp and imposing than he could have looked. But I got to go bowling with him and some of the old lunch buddies whom I haven't seen in about a year and a half!

Wonderful Thing #3: I finished watching the older Star Wars Episodes.
Myra let us borrow her Christmas gifts of Episodes IV, V, and VI, and considering I hadn't seen them in... something resembling 10 years, I remembered quite a bit. I saw them in theatres when they were re-released in their digitally remastered forms. But now that they're on DVD, it was really great to see themin full. We finisehd "Return of the Jedi" tonight. I love the Ewoks! And Han Solo. Amazingly cute in both cases :)

And now, in typical Annemarie Fashion, I am staying up way later than I should, so that when I wake up at noon tomorrow, I'll feel guilty for sleeping in so late. And maybe I can get cracking on some of the things I'm supposed to do, like clean house, finish projects I started and get organized. I hope I'm this motivated tomorrow!
